The Opera Company is a new arts aggregation operating across voice, sound, performance, movement, music, print, socially-engaged theatre, pedagogy and relation-research-creation. Co-founded in 2019 with composers Joseph Franklin and James Hazel in response to the class void often lived and felt in high-art spaces, it now serves as a platform that presents, collaborates, co-directs, and provides event-based practices and conceptual support for emerging artists. Operating in a post-covid world under the guardianship of Tina Stefanou, the mission is to empower artists to create otherwise, to interrupt and reclaim the culture commons in alter-economic assemblages fostering the presentation of ideas and works in expanded formats that eschew elite preconceptions of art-making-it.
